Born on the seventh day of the month of Safar in the year 691H, probably in Zura' or Damascus, Imam Ibn Qayyim was a model of piety, piety which had been eloquently highlighted by Imam Ibn Kathîr.

In an admiring tone, he declared about him: 'In our time, I do not know any more devout than him in this world. He prolonged the prayer enormously and made his bowing and prostration last. Many of his companions blamed him on certain occasions, but he persisted and did not turn away from his practice - may Allah the Most High have mercy on him!'
